Approval Granted for Telecom Infrastructure Sharing Framework by ECC

The Economic Coordination Committee (ECC) of the Cabinet approved the long-awaited Telecom Infrastructure Sharing Framework during its Tuesday meeting, presided over by interim Finance Minister Dr. Shamshad Akhtar.

The approval came after a thorough discussion based on a summary from the Ministry of Information Technology & Telecommunication, proposing the first-ever Telecom Infrastructure Sharing Framework.

Additionally, the committee granted approval for the release of IMT spectrum to enhance next-generation mobile broadband services in Pakistan. They also endorsed the formation of an advisory committee for the release of unsold IMT Spectrum, outlining its terms of reference.

The Telecom Infrastructure Sharing Framework, developed by the Ministry of Information Technology and Telecommunication, encompasses the sharing of various telecom network components and associated physical infrastructure. This approach aims to optimize resources by efficiently utilizing assets, reducing redundant network infrastructure, saving time and costs, and expediting service deployments.

This framework will establish a mechanism for licensees to share their telecom infrastructure facilities, encompassing both passive elements like tower space and ducts, as well as active components such as the Access Network (BTS, BSC/RNC, microwave, etc.).

Key attendees at the meeting included ministers and advisors related to commerce, communications, power, and petroleum, as well as senior government officials from relevant ministries.
