Bezos, Nvidia, and OpenAI Collaborate to Back Humanoid Robot Startup

According to reports from Bloomberg, a consortium of tech giants, including Jeff Bezos, Nvidia, Microsoft, and others, is investing in Figure AI, a startup focused on humanoid robot development. The funding round aims to raise approximately $675 million, with a pre-money valuation of around $2 billion.

Bezos’ Explore Investments LLC is committing $100 million, Microsoft is contributing $95 million, and both Nvidia and an Amazon-affiliated fund are injecting $50 million each. OpenAI, known for its ChatGPT chatbot, is investing $5 million. The surge in AI startup investments follows OpenAI’s successful launch of ChatGPT in November 2022.

Figure AI, based in Sunnyvale, California, secured $70 million in its previous funding round. The startup specializes in versatile humanoid robots capable of various tasks, from warehouse operations to retail activities. Additional backers include Intel’s venture capital arm, LG Innotek, Samsung’s investment group, Parkway Venture Capital, Align Ventures, ARK Venture Fund, Aliya Capital Partners, and Tamarack.

The investments reflect growing confidence in the potential of AI startups to outperform larger competitors in the industry. Amazon, Nvidia, Microsoft, and Intel have refrained from commenting, while Figure AI and other entities mentioned in the report have not immediately responded to requests for comment.
