According to cybersecurity professional Asif Iqbal, users of the social media messaging platform should make sure their accounts are safe. He shared this piece of advice while being interviewed on the Good Morning Pakistan show aired on the ARY News channel.

Strengthen WhatsApp Security

It was suggested by Iqbal that two-factor authentication be activated and a user’s email should be connected to the WhatsApp account. According to Iqbal, an email can assist a user in reclaiming the hacked WhatsApp account within 10-15 minutes.

Steps to Regain a Hacked Account

The user can try to recover his/her account using the SIM card that was used to register his/her WhatsApp account. This method is likely to be available after an hour. Iqbal further noted that for iPhone users trying to recover immediately, an Android phone is required.

Report Fraud and Protect Privacy

The victim needs to get in touch with the National Cyber Crime Investigation Agency or other government organizations. According to Iqbal, some cases could be settled within 15-30 minutes. Users must save any information regarding the bank or Easypaisa account provided by the hackers, since it will be useful in identifying the fraud.
