Next Generation Broadband for Sustainable Development (NG-BSD): A new project that is going to be started by the Universal Service Fund (USF). Three districts: Bahawalpur, Mirpurkhas, and Kolai Palas are going to be covered in this project, and the goal is to provide an improved and reliable internet service in the areas that have remained behind in internet access for a long time now.

The Auction Model Process

A reverse auction mechanism will be executed through this project. Telecom operators will compete by offering the lowest government subsidy to provide broadband services, and the company with the lowest subsidy will be successful. The successful bidder will receive a government backup to maintain the required infrastructure. Eligibility for participation includes proper tax registration (NTN and sales tax compliance), and further details are available on the USF’s official website.

Plan & Outcome

The bidding process starts in phases. Initiating with Bahawalpur, for which the deadline is May 21, 2026, and after that, the other districts will be followed accordingly. A high-speed, affordable, and reliable internet service is expected outcome of this initiative, which will also enhance education, healthcare, and business opportunities for communities.
