New Momentum for Cloud Adoption

According to the Ministry of Information Technology and Telecommunication (MoITT), six cloud services providers have submitted their accreditation requests in the framework of the Cloud First Policy, which is a radical approach to the introduction of cloud infrastructure in both the government and the digital systems of the population of the country.

Why It Matters

With this policy, government departments are advised to focus on cloud-based solutions to data storage, AI workloads, secure service, and projects in digital transformation. This transformation is part of a larger vision of Pakistan to design and build a data-friendly and resilience-focused and scalable digital world, which can underpin secure and sovereign cloud operations.

AI Cloud and Data Centre Integration

The authorities have mentioned that the ministry is undertaking the consideration of using the Pakistan-based platform AI Cloud and Data Centre, which has been built in collaboration with Nvidia. This facility may assist in contributing to government services, development of artificial intelligence and adherence to data residency demands and establish the foundation of adoption of AI in the enterprise in the future.

Future Prospects and Phased Roll-Out

Although formal onboarding of workloads and pilot projects is not yet a reality, the intense interest of service providers has demonstrated that the vision of the cloud infrastructure in Pakistan is at work. Upon operational and successful implementation, the model might allow improving the quality of digital service delivery, enhancing cybersecurity resilience, and improving innovation in various fields.
