Ignite to Provide Significant Subsidies, Empowering 25,000 Freelancers

Ignite, the National Technology Fund, is set to introduce an innovative subsidy model to support 25,000 freelancers in Pakistan. This initiative, part of the co-working spaces project, is gaining momentum and aims to have a significant impact on the freelance landscape.

Funding for the project will come from two primary sources: Rs. 1 billion approved by the Public Sector Development Program for establishing e-Rozgar centers nationwide and a second phase overseen by Ignite. This phase focuses on developing a subsidy model tailored to benefit freelancers, with an estimated cost of 2.5 to 3 billion rupees.

The Ministry of IT and Telecom plans to launch e-Rozgar centers for freelancers in collaboration with the Pakistan Software Export Board, and private building owners will be incentivized with interest-free loans for converting their buildings into e-Rozgar centers. The project is expected to empower freelancers by providing essential facilities through co-working space owners, ultimately contributing to the growth of the freelance sector in Pakistan.
