Dubai International Airport is the busiest in the world for international travel, and it is revolutionizing passport control through advanced biometric smart tunnels. Through this system, passengers can have their passports checked within a whopping 15 seconds by iris recognition technology. For this, travelers proceed to sign up at the kiosk before advancing through smart gates that identify them without the need for any human intervention.

This four-year project is driven by the General Directorate of Residency and Foreign Affairs (GDRFA). As specifically pointed out by Major General Mohammed Ahmed Al-Marri—the director general of GDRFA—technologies to be implemented are unique of their kind in the world, aimed at streamlining and improving the travel experience.

This achievement not only cements Dubai’s efforts in making use of technology for efficiency but also defines the marker for future aviation travel patterns worldwide. The smart tunnel guarantees a seamless, secure, and futuristic journey for passengers
