IT Ministry Plans Imminent Establishment of Gaming and Animation Center

The Ministry of IT and Telecom is initiating the establishment of the Center of Excellence for Gaming and Animation (CEGA) in Karachi and Lahore, in collaboration with Ignite National Technology Fund. Expressions of interest are being sought from companies for the development of these centers, located at NED University of Engineering and Technology Karachi and National Aerospace Science and Technology Park (NASTP) Lahore. The Centers will encompass training facilities, co-working spaces, and incubation centers to foster the growth of the gaming and animation industry.

The training centers, equipped with 50 workstations, will provide instructor-led physical and virtual training for students. Co-working spaces will be established for freelancers and entrepreneurs, featuring meeting rooms and a common area with a capacity for 100 individuals. Additionally, incubation centers will support 40 gaming and animation startups annually, split between Karachi and Lahore.

The initiative responds to the significant expansion of the gaming and animation industry, with a current global market size exceeding USD 500 billion. Ignite reports that Pakistan’s gaming industry generated USD 170 million in revenue last year, with over 8,000 professionals associated with it. Recognizing the country’s potential, the CEGA aims to position Pakistan as a key regional player in the gaming, animation, and multimedia sectors over the next five years.
