OpenAI has introduced GPT-4o mini, a smaller yet powerful AI model designed to make advanced GPT-4 technology more accessible. Priced at 15 cents per 1 million input tokens and 60 cents per 1 million output tokens, GPT-4o mini is significantly cheaper than GPT-3.5 Turbo.

 

OpenAI positions GPT-4o mini as a cost-effective solution that outperforms leading models like Gemini Flash, Claude Haiku, and GPT-3.5 Turbo in various benchmarks. The new model closely matches the performance of the full-scale GPT-4o, excelling in textual intelligence and multimodal reasoning. It shows notable proficiency in problem-solving tasks, especially in mathematics and coding, and is set to handle images, videos, and audio in the future.

 

With a context window of 128,000 tokens and knowledge up to October 2023, GPT-4o mini will replace GPT-3.5 in free, plus, and team subscriptions immediately, and will be available to enterprise users next week.

 

There is no word yet on the launch date for OpenAI’s next major release, GPT-5, but it is expected to feature improvements in reasoning, problem-solving, and multimodal capabilities.
