Pakistan’s rapidly expanding IT sector has been honored as the “Tech Destination of the Year” at the 44th GITEX Global Technology Show, held from October 14 to 18, 2024. GITEX Global, the largest technology event in the Middle East, North Africa, and South Asia (MENASA), focuses this year on “Global Collaboration to Forge a Future AI Economy,” highlighting the transformative impact of AI and digital technologies.

 

Pakistan’s prominent presence at GITEX, featuring over 80 leading companies and startups in the TechdestiNation Pakistan Pavilion—organized by the Pakistan Software Export Board (PSEB) and the Trade Development Authority of Pakistan (TDAP)—underscores its growing stature in the global tech arena. The country’s IT exports have become a top-five contributor to the national economy.

 

According to Zeeshan Khattak, CEO of PSEB, Pakistan is attracting foreign investment and partnerships due to its competitive advantages: a skilled workforce with over 75,000 IT graduates annually from more than 250 universities, a vibrant freelance community, and recognition as the most financially attractive outsourcing destination by Kearney’s Global Location Index. Operational costs are 70% lower compared to North America.

 

With over 140 million internet users and government initiatives focusing on data centers and submarine cables, Pakistan’s digital infrastructure is rapidly advancing. The Connexion Lounge at GITEX facilitates B2B interactions, enhancing international collaboration.

 

This accolade marks a significant milestone in Pakistan’s journey to becoming a global tech hub, with support from both government and private sectors propelling continued growth.
