Uber Ceases Operations in Lahore, Shifts Focus to Careem

Uber has officially terminated its services in Lahore, the last city in Pakistan where it was operational, following earlier exits from Islamabad, Karachi, Multan, and other cities in 2022. Without prior notice, the ride-hailing app became non-functional in Lahore, marking the end of Uber’s direct presence in Pakistan.

According to a company spokesperson, this decision aligns with Uber’s global strategy to concentrate on markets where sustainable growth is achievable. However, its subsidiary, Careem, will continue to provide ride-hailing services across Pakistan, offering both continued service for customers and opportunities for drivers.

As part of the transition, Uber is promoting Careem to its users by offering a 50% discount on the next five rides through the use of a promotional code. Uber also plans to reach out to users with pending account balances to arrange refunds shortly. Meanwhile, Careem will maintain its operations across ten major Pakistani cities including Karachi, Islamabad, and Lahore.
