Upcoming Changes to UPI Services Affecting Google Pay Users
March 21, 2025
Starting April 1, 2025, users of Unified Payments Interface (UPI) services, including those on platforms like Google Pay, PhonePe, and Paytm, may experience disruptions if their mobile numbers linked to UPI have been inactive for an extended period. The National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI) has directed banks and UPI applications to deactivate such inactive mobile numbers from their systems.
This initiative aims to enhance the security and efficiency of UPI transactions by ensuring that only active and valid mobile numbers are associated with bank accounts. Users with inactive numbers linked to their bank accounts may face difficulties in conducting UPI transactions, including sending or receiving payments. To prevent any inconvenience, users are advised to update their mobile numbers linked to their bank accounts and UPI services before the specified deadline.
Maintaining an active mobile number is crucial for seamless UPI transactions, as it facilitates timely communication between banks and account holders. Users should ensure their contact information is current to avoid potential disruptions in their payment activities. This proactive measure by the NPCI underscores the importance of up-to-date user information in the rapidly evolving digital payment ecosystem.
In light of these changes, it is also recommended that users keep their payment apps updated to the latest versions. Regular updates often include security enhancements and new features that contribute to a safer and more efficient user experience. Users can visit the Google Play Store or the App Store to update their respective payment applications accordingly.
