The country is believed to have taken a giant step in its digital infrastructure in Pakistan with the launching of preparations for a new undersea internet cable system. The project being managed by Transworld Associates connects Pakistan to the advanced SEA-ME-WE 6 consortium linking Southeast Asia, the Middle East, and Western Europe.

This will result in a dramatic improvement in internet speed and reliability. Therefore, cable speeds can handle tens of terabits per second, which caters to the burgeoning demand for fast connectivity speeds in Pakistan. This kind of technology is likely to work out problems such as lags in service and service interruptions that most users will face with slower browsing connections or streaming services. It further reduces the impact of an outage by providing alternative routes for data, hence keeping the connectivity seamless even when a problem is identified in a particular route.

This development is quite important for the rapidly growing IT, e-commerce, and freelance industries in Pakistan. High-speed, more reliable internet can attract foreign investment, which may boost the image of the country as a digital economy.
